Ontario offers $75,000 as rebate for the purchase of Tesla Semi

Canada’s biggest province Ontario will offer C$75,000 rebate for the purchase of electric trucks from Tesla and BYD.

Ontario’s Green Commercial Vehicle Program offers various rebates on fuel-saving devices to encourage the usage of eco-friendly vehicles. As a part of the program, the government will now offer up to 60{4c121b525f261b6e9cd1def8a3985dbe850ad058af7b7776b0968f5bd69c65ba}  as rebate for purchasing Tesla Semi.

“Although there is no limit on the number of alternative fuel commercial motor vehicles or fuel saving devices that an applicant may apply for,” – said,  spokesperson for the Canadian Ministry of Transport

“Payment of incentives will be subject to the availability of funds and GCVP policy objectives, which may change over time.” – – he added.

The rebate program will fund up to C$12 million in rebates for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2018.

The rebate program will attract more vehicle manufacturers to market commercial vehicles to companies in the applicable areas.

Loblaw – Canada’s food retailer is one of the first to pre-order Semi trucks from Tesla.  The company now has  285 reservations on hand well above the 100 units ordered by United States-based PepsiCo earlier this week.

The rebate will help achieve Ontario’s target in cutting greenhouse gas pollution.  The province has set 15 percent below 1990 levels by 2020, 37 percent by 2030 and 80 percent by 2050.
